Region expects tech hiring gains

A net 15 percent of Greater Sacramento information technology chiefs plan to add IT staff in the third quarter, a survey by Robert Half Technology reported.

The company's IT Hiring Index and Skills report found that 18 percent of executives plan to hire IT staff in the quarter and 3 percent plan to reduce personnel. The net 15 percent increase -- up 3 point from second quarter forecasts -- lines up with the national average.

"In the course of expanding operations, many companies in the Sacramento area are investing in technology initiatives that require IT professionals with a range of development and support skills," said Katherine Spencer LEE, executive director of Robert Half. "This has intensified competition for top talent, prompting firms to expedite their hiring processes and devote greater resources to attracting and retaining employees."

Robert Half surveyed 200 local and 1,400 national chief technology officers.
