County Recognized For Fiscal Excellence
For the fifth consecutive year, Solano County has earned a Certificate of Achievement in Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006.
"For the last five years, the Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the Auditor-Controller's Office, as well as the entire County fiscal staff, a tremendous accolade with their esteem vote of confidence," said Auditor-Controller Simona Padilla-Scholtens. "The certificate of excellence has become our standard, and I know the County will continue to produce high quality work in the future."
The County's financial report was judged on its ability to meet the high GFOA standards, including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the document.
The financial report also satisfied generally accepted accounting principles and all applicable legal requirements.
"As a taxpayer and a member of the Board of Supervisors, I see this recognition not only as an affirmation the County is keeping track of the public's money properly, but we are communicating back to the public with this document in a way that has been recognized as a best practice," said Supervisor Mike Reagan, Chairman of the Solano County Board of Supervisors.
The GFOA describes the award as the "highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its fiscal management."
