The city of Dixon is only about a month away from starting its first curbside recycling program, and city officials say residents are calling in anxious to get the program started.

Dixon is the last city in the county to implement such a program.

The large blue recycle receptacles will be delivered to Dixon residents the week of March 24. The first day of recyclable collection will be March 31.

"It's nice to have a new program," said Martha Jensen, with Dixon Public Works Department. "People have been calling in wanting to know when it starts."

Residents did have the option of opting out of the program. Starting in January, 305 owner occupied residents could choose not to participate in the program before the Monday's deadline.

Jensen said 534 residents turned in the form, but only the first 305 verified residents won't have to pay the monthly fee of $2.

For more information call Dixon Sanitary Service at 678-4026 or Jensen at 678-7051 ext. 105.
