E.D.D: Drop in jobless rate

FAIRFIELD - The unemployment rate in Solano County dipped to 4.5 percent in December, 2006 compared to 4.6 percent in November, according to the latest report by the Employment Development Department of the State of California.

Both unemployment rates were below last year's estimate of 4.6 percent.

While there were 500 jobs lost in the construction sector and 100 jobs lost in manufacturing, the total number of jobs remained at 133,200 for both months. The losses were offset by 300 new jobs in the trade, transportation and utilities sector; 300 additional jobs in professional and business services and 100 new jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector.

During the same period, the unemployment rate throughout California was 4.6 percent and 4.3 percent for the nation.
