Travis Unit Wins Outstanding Unit Award

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE - The Air Force Reserve's 349th Air Mobility Wing earned the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for the fifth year in a row, the wing's Public Affairs Office announced Thursday.

The award is presented to units for excellence in their performance in carrying their missions.

Thw wing's C-5 squadrons flew 1,169 sorties carrying 12,257 passengers and 9,395 tons of cargo during that time. It's KC-10 squadrons offloaded more than 20 million tons of fuel to the aircraft and carried 9,395 tons of cargo.

In addition to supporting American operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the 349th also carried humanitarian relief to El Salvador and supported Hurricane Katrina victims.

Brig. Gen. Thomas Gisler, the 349th's commander, thanked each of the 349th's members "for your outstanding effort that resulted in this award."
