Report extols Bay's China links
San Francisco Business Times - November 17, 2006

The Bay Area's historical and cultural ties to China place the region in a unique position to benefit from China's robust economic growth, according to a new report from the Bay Area Economic Forum.
But deepening the Bay Area-China relationship will require new policy measures in Sacramento and Washington in areas from immigration to trade to strengthen U.S. competitiveness, plus initiatives from the Bay Area's public and private sectors to leverage regional assets, expand trade and increase investment opportunities.
In 'Ties that Bind: the Bay Area-China Connection,' the Bay Area Economic Forum urges leaders to:
* Expand the teaching of Chinese languages in elementary and secondary schools as well as junior colleges.
* Increase the capacity of the Port of Oakland and the region's main airports.
* Promote the Bay Area for Chinese investment and create regional groups to support China-related businesses.
