On Tuesday the Dixon City Council will review and comment on a proposal to build a retail center, which includes a Home Depot - a matter referred to them by the Planning Commission.
The Dorset Retail Center, which includes plans to build the Home Depot, would be built on a 16.64-acre site adjacent to Cattlemens Restaurant off Highway 113, next to a housing development of 84 homes.
Planning commissioners unanimously decided on July 17 to forward the design plans for the Home Depot to the city council for review and comment.
With a referral from the Planning Commission, the council is allowed to review projects if a proposed building site is more than 75,000 square feet.
Scott Mommer Consulting, representing Home Depot, and Dixon Development Partners, LLC, seek to construct a 195,000-square-foot complex.
The plan includes a 142,000-square-foot Home Depot, a 4,000-square-foot drive-in restaurant, 3,000-square-foot drive-in bank and 45,800 square feet of miscellaneous retail.
During Tuesday's city council meeting, councilmembers will review the project and pass their ideas along to the commission for consideration, along with other entitlements, at a noticed public hearing.
In other action, the council will decide a method for updating the city's general plan.
Staff suggests that the council appoint a committee of two council members, two planning commissioners and two or more members from the community to interview firms interested in writing the plan update and make a recommendation to the council.
The plan is to award a contract in November to the consultant who will work with the city to update the General Plan.
City staff predict that $250,000 is a minimum price tag to pay for the update.
The Dixon City Council meets at 7 p.m. in the council chamber, 600 East A St.
