Solar company finds Fairfield to its liking

By Ines Bebea

FAIRFIELD - Bay Solar Power Design is moving its operations from Pacifica to a 7,000-square-foot facility on Watney Way. The company manufactures solar panels for residential and commercial needs.

John Bannen, CEO of Bay Solar Power, considered the move to Fairfield as an opportunity to expand his growing customer base and increase the company's presence in Northern California.

"Pacifica has no large rooms or manufacturing buildings to keep up with our needs," said Bannen, who started the company as a home business in 2000. "We have outgrown our retail space every six months. The facility in Fairfield will give us ample room for storage, room to expand and a loading dock."

The decision to move to Fairfield was also influenced by the city's location along Interstate 80 and its proximity to the Bay Area. Bannen has plans to expand his company to Santa Rosa, Monterey and San Jose. His company plans to hire sales representatives, customer service personnel, telemarketers, and licensed solar installers.

"We feel confident that our business will grow in this area because of the warmer temperatures, where residents are spending so much money on electricity to run air conditioners," Bannen said. "Our business has grown by 300 percent every year, and the technology continues to advance tremendously in regards to solar power and alternative sources energies."
