Orchard hardware seeking approval

Consumers' choices of home improvement supplies in Vacaville may broaden considerably if officials approve a new Orchard Supply Hardware store proposed near Costco.

Orchard Supply Hardware, originally located in the Alamo Plaza shopping center, closed years ago. The Vacaville Planning Commission on Tuesday will consider approval with conditions on a 43,000-square-foot facility on a 6-acre parcel at the northwest corner of Hume Way and Peabody Road.

Peyman Behvan, associate planner, said while the staff report is not completed, he is recommending approval of the store.

"It's a pretty visibly location," Behvan said. "It's a permitted use, and we think it's going to be a nice building."

Behvan added that the plans show a customer pick up area, nursery and other support areas.

The proposal is actually for a 60,000-square-foot retail center, so there will be two building pads for future development, likely retail, on the site, Behvan said.

The Vacaville Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 650 Merchant St.
