OSH plan goes to commission
By Claire St. John
VACAVILLE - A proposed Orchard Supply and Hardware plan will go to the Planning Commission Tuesday night, pitching a 55,000-square-foot hardware retail center at the northwest corner of Peabody Road and Hume Way.
The plan calls for more landscaping than the city requires, with trees and bushes dotting a 172-space parking lot and along streets 10-17 feet deep.
Two other pads on 1.8 acres will remain in anticipation of future businesses which would require their own appearance in front of the Planning Commission as well as their own traffic study.
OSH is expected to generate 186 daily trips from 4 to 6 p.m., peak hours for the store, a rate that wouldn't require any big changes to the roadway, according to a city staff report.
The only problem with the proposed hardware store is its signs which, as proposed, exceed the allowable sign area.
The site is zoned for commercial use, and is flanked by a PG&E parking lot, a Costco and Will C. Wood High School across Hume Way.
City staff has recommended the Planning Commission approve OSH's plans and pass them on to the City Council for further review.
