Fairfield Development Activity

Orchard Supply Hardware will soon be occupying the former Yardbird’s building at the corner of Travis Boulevard and Oliver Road. The store is currently under-going renovation and will open in the summer.

Huckleberry’s Restaurant will soon be opening in the former Mel’s Diner space on the corner of Travis Boulevard and Oliver Road, in the Geri-Town Shopping Center. Huckleberry’s will have a Southern theme, with interiors decorated in the style of a Mississippi steamboat and serving such foods as flapjacks with huckleberry syrup, Cajun hot links, and chicken gumbo. It will serve breakfast and lunch only. The chain has other locations in Exeter, Pismo Beach, and Fresno. They expect to open in late February or early March 2008.

Trans Bay Steel. Trans Bay Steel has leased a 130,000-square foot building on Cordelia Road. They are currently in the process of planning their steel fabrication lines. The company is relocating from Napa. They fabricate steel for bridges and large buildings. The steel will be delivered to the site via rail.

West Texas Street Pedestrian Improvements. City staff has been working closely with David Gates & Associates and Caltrans on refining plans for West Texas Street and the gateway area that spans West Texas Street from Beck Avenue to Oliver Road. Staff is currently evaluating resources for a pilot project that would implement key components of the designs at West Texas and Fifth Streets, and the gateway area. Staff plans on presenting refined drawings for West Texas and Fifth Streets, and the gateway area to Planning Commission in February 2008.
