County Center Reaps Awards

The Solano County Government Center was honored Tuesday with both national and local awards.

The new, $83 million facility was recognized with a 2006 Construction Management Association of America Project Achievement Award during the group's national conference and trade show in Florida. County Architect Kanon Artiche accepted the award for the "Buildings, New Construction Under $100 Million" category.

The six-story facility, which encompasses nearly three city blocks in downtown Fairfield, was completed in July 2005 and serves as the anchor building in the county's government complex.

Solano also received The City of Fairfield Design Award, a biannual recognition from the city's planning department aimed at highlighting outstanding construction projects in the city. John Vasquez, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, accepted the award which was presented by Vice Mayor Jack Batson.

"I am delighted to see Solano County recognized for its excellent work in the development of the new government center complex here in downtown Fairfield," Vasquez said in a prepared statement. "The notoriety and reputation for achievements in both architecture and project management the facility has gained both locally and nationally is humbling."
