Oakland ice creamery Fentons to open second shop in Vacaville

One could say Fentons Creamery expands in a very deliberate manner. After operating an ice cream shop in Oakland for the past 112 years, Fentons will open a second location at Vacaville's Nut Tree Village in March.

Fentons has signed a 20-year lease to run a 7,400-square-foot shop at Nut Tree Village, a new development on the site of the old Nut Tree restaurant.

The roadside restaurant, which closed years ago, is being replaced with a big-box retail center with anchor stores like Best Buy, Sport Chalet, Borders Books and Old Navy; a 2-acre park; a market pavilion with local and artisan tenants; and office space.

Fentons was originally opened in 1894 by Elbridge Fenton, with the original shop at 41st Avenue and Howe in Oakland. A full dairy operated on the site until the mid-1950s, when it was purchased by Foremost and moved to Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, where it has remained until this day. Fentons has"
